Brantford Native Housing Application

Brantford Native Housing (BNH) provides Affordable, Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) and Market rent housing to support the diverse needs of Indigenous households in Brantford and Brant County.

About the Housing Program

The BNH Housing Program provides long-term, financially accessible housing for Indigenous individuals and families living in urban and rural areas of Brantford and Brant County.

This program is not Transitional Housing or Emergency Shelter Housing. If you require Transitional Housing, please visit our website for additional information and to access the BNH Transitional Housing Application Form.

Supports available through the program may include:

• Assistance with securing affordable housing.
• Guidance in accessing government housing subsidies.
• Rent support programs.
• Community-building initiatives.
• Cultural programming.
• Referrals and connections to services that support overall well-being.

Application Requirements

Before submitting your application, please ensure that:

• All sections of the application are fully completed.
• All required documentation is attached.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted and will not be placed on the waitlist.

Eligibility Guidelines

• At least 50% of the household must be of Indigenous ancestry.
• Proof of Indigenous status or ancestry is required for applicable household members.

Example of an Eligible Household

This household is eligible, as at least 50% of members identify as Indigenous.

Example of a Non-Eligible Household

This household is not eligible, as less than 50% of members identify as Indigenous.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to keep their application up to date. Please notify Brantford Native Housing of any changes to your address, telephone number, or household size within 30 days. Applicants are placed on the wait list based on the date the application is approved.

If yes, please attach acceptable proof of custody, as follows:

• Child Tax Credit Stub
• Universal Child Care Benefit Stub
• Drug or Dental Cards, listing the children on your benefits for Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program
• Letter from Children and Family Services if children were previously in their care
• Letter from Shelter verifying children reside with you in the shelter

Tenant Obligations

Largest Unit

• One bedroom for any 2 members who are spouses or same sex partners.
• One bedroom for each additional member of the household.

Smallest Unit

• One bedroom for every two members of the household.
• An additional bedroom if there is an odd number of household members.

Personal information collected on this application, and any additional information provided, is collected by Brantford Native Housing in accordance with the Housing Services Act, 2011, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act or any government department responsible for social housing programs under the Residential Tenancies Act, or Brantford Native Housing’s housing portfolio operating agreement.

This information will be verified and used to administer this application, including determining eligibility, housing suitability, continuation of housing, rent scales, rent-geared-to-income, and related reporting.

I authorize Brantford Native Housing to collect, use, verify, and disclose the personal information provided in this application and its supporting documents as required to process my application.

I consent to Brantford Native Housing making inquiries and obtaining information from any individual, organization, or government agency with knowledge of my circumstances for this purpose.

I understand that my information may be shared with housing providers and municipal, provincial, or federal agencies involved in the administration of nonprofit or social housing programs, including Ontario Works, the Ontario Disability Support Program, and other relevant government departments, to assess my initial and ongoing eligibility for housing assistance.

I understand that outstanding rental arrears without acceptable repayment arrangements may affect my eligibility for rent-geared-to-income assistance.

I agree to notify Brantford Native Housing of any changes to household composition or contact information within 30 days. Failure to do so may result in this application being deemed ineligible.

Brantford Native Housing may also use and disclose my personal information where necessary for rent calculation and collection, legal and regulatory compliance, financial auditing, emergency contact, unit maintenance or repairs, and rental or credit verification. Information may be shared with authorized agents, contractors, credit bureaus, financial institutions, emergency contacts, or the City of Brantford Housing Department.

All people listed on this application 16 years of age and older must be listed below to indicate they have read and accepted all terms and conditions of the Release of Consent.
